International Women
International Women's Day

On 8th March , Chesterfield CLP celebrated International Women’s Day 2021 with three diverse and inspirational, local women speakers.  First Terri White, Inkersall born and raised Editor in Chief of Empire magazine and author of the moving memoir Coming Undone.  Terri was followed by Kudsia Batool from Derby, Head of Equalities and Strategy at the TUC  and previously headmistress of a primary school in Derby. Our final speaker was Terry Barrow, retired South Yorkshire councillor, women’s rights activist and one of the architects of the Sure Start scheme.  The event was well attended by members and non-members and discussions were wide ranging.  The theme of the event was ‘Choose to Challenge’ and takeaways included: there’s no such thing as an average woman – experience (good and bad) can shape, but never define you – and the power of the nannan/nanna/granny!
