From the start of the pandemic, unsung heroes have stepped up to help their communities.
- NHS and care workers are going above and beyond for people who need care
- Chesterfield Borough Council staff distributed food and medicine to shielding and self-isolating residents
- Local businesses switched production to manufacture PPE
- Councillors Jenny Flood, Dave Allen and Lisa Blakemore, alongside community volunteers, transformed Gussie’s Kitchen, based at Saints Augustine’s church on Derby Road, into a food delivery service
- Cafés and restaurants offered free meals for children when the government refused calls by Labour and footballer Marcus Rashford to keep children fed.
These heroes – and so many others – showed the amazing spirit of our town.
If you know an unsung Covid hero, please let us know so we can acknowledge them.
